Although probably not as well known as some other plastics such as Nylon, it can offer some performance advantages. UHMWPE has a very low co-efficient of friction and much lower than most other plastics and it also has superb abrasion and wear resistance. UHMWPE has probably one of the best resistance to extreme abrasion of all the engineering plastics.

UHMWPE Sheet
Because UHMWPE Sheet has outstanding abrasion resistance it is often specified for lining chutes where aggressive products such as sand, gravel and other similar aggregates. UHMWPE Sheet is also often machined into wear guides where high volumes of containers, often used in food factories are expected to pass and where production down time is expensive. UHMWPE Sheet is also low in moisture absorption, it is often chosen for marine and water industry associated products and components. There is also applications within the cryogenic industry, this is due to its low temperature performance. UHMWPE Sheets are available in sheet sizes of 2000 x 1000 and also 3050 x 1250, sheet thicknesses range from 2mm thick up to a massive 250mm although the highest thickness may need to be pre-ordered. There is an alternative within the UHMWPE Sheet range and that is with the option of the RG1000 grade, this is a regenerated grade that has almost identical performance but with a much lower cost which saves the consumer money while there is little disadvantages.

UHMWPE Rod
UHMWPE Rod is an excellent low friction engineering plastic that is excellent for free running pulleys in many applications such as marine and other associated industries. Because UHMWPE Rod is very abrasion resistant it is suitable for the more aggressive environments such as grit and gravel. Natural grade UHMWPE Rod is FDA approved which means it is safe with food contact applications. UHMWPE Rod is available in a size range from 10mm diameter up to a maximum diameter of 200mm and lengths are manufactured at 2000mm long. Colours available are natural and also black, green is sometimes available for some sizes but is usually available for advanced order only.

UHMWPE Sheet and Rod Applications
Because UHMWPE Sheet and Rod are very abrasive resistant, this particular engineering plastic can be found in some of the most demanding applications such as bearings, pulleys and wear strips in the sand or aggregate industry. This industry can be very harsh on any engineering plastic but UHMWPE Sheet and Rod are one of the few materials that can withstand the punishing demands.
