Click here to buy Acetal. Acetal is a material group that is divided into two grades, co-polymer and homopolymer. Co-polymer grade Acetal is by far the most common grade and is more suited to chemical applications. Homopolymer grade, also known as Delrin® is a little more expensive and less common but more suited for mechanical applications but overall, the two Acetal grades are very similar in properties and performance. Acetal Rod is generally available in a size range from 4mm diameter up to a maximum of 250mm diameter although a few manufacturers produce Acetal in larger sizes. Acetal Sheet is generally manufactured in thicknesses ranging from 2mm thick up to a maximum of 100mm thick. Acetal is also generally available in either white or black, other colours are available but is much more expensive and availability and range is very limited. Because Acetal is very easy to machine, light weight and low friction, it is used in many varied components but it is unable to be bonded with any currently available adhesives, although there are advances within the adhesive industry which may change this in the future. Acetal is one of the plastics with minimal moisture absorption which means it is suitable for damp environments and also doesn't expand over time due to moisture exposure as other materials can.
